15% of women in IT: not enough for VW

Volkswagen sees the need to catch up in recruiting talented women, especially in the IT professions. The proportion of women here is currently 10%. “I’m not satisfied,” said Kilian. Here, too, we need to encourage more young women. “We’re working on it.”

In recruiting external candidates, it is increasingly about the use of digital channels and a greater approach not only to traditional specialist graduates. “We haven’t looked so closely at offers in a long time.” Internally, training also changes: “All in all, I see that the education sector will change”. For example, knowledge is also transmitted to trainees via YouTube.

In competing with US electric car pioneer Tesla and his new factory near Berlin, VW is not afraid. Asked if Elon Musk’s company could keep up with the commitment of software experts and engineers, Kilian said: “I think we can definitely do it. I’m not afraid of competition with others.”
