York Region Public Health says 11 confirmed cases of COVID-19 are linked to indoor football at a Vaughan sports center in mid-November.
In a public notice issued Sunday, the public health unit said the cluster of cases emerged after a group of people played soccer at the TRIO Sportplex and Event Center, 601 Cityview Blvd., on November 11 and the November 15. he found that there were 20 to 25 people in all.
“While the group wore masks during the game, the masks were not worn in the locker room,” the public notice said.
The public health unit was notified of the first confirmed case on Friday and a total of 11 cases have been confirmed since then. These include: 8 cases from Toronto; a case from the York region: a case from the Simcoe-Muskoka region; and a case from Peel Region.
All people who played football in the two days are considered to be at high risk and all were advised to go into solitary confinement for 14 days. People who develop symptoms are urged to get tested and to continue isolating themselves until they get the test results.
York Region Public Health says it is tracking the contacts of 11 people who tested positive.
On Monday, November 16, the York region moved to the province’s red control zone, which means team sports cannot be played or played except for training.
