According to the refining industry and related ministries on the 13th, Environment Minister Cho Joong-rae and representatives of the oil refining industry gathered to sign an MOU next week to expand future vehicle charging infrastructure.

The signing ceremony is scheduled for 18 at the Lotte Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul. Joon-young Jang, president of the Korea Environment Corporation, also participates.

The MOU signed this day provides for the installation of fast electric vehicle chargers at gas stations and LPG gas charging stations located nationwide.

A senior environmental ministry official explained: “Private companies will voluntarily set up to meet the demand for electric vehicle charging and the government is willing to support it.” The Ministry of the Environment and Korea Environment Corporation intend to provide financial support for the installation of the future vehicle charging infrastructure for gas stations and LPG charging stations and to promote pilot projects. In the past, operators of private gas stations and LPG charging stations have voluntarily built the future vehicle charging infrastructure, but this MOU is significant as most of the major companies in the sector have participated and the government has said the own will to support him.

National refineries, including SK Innovation and GS Caltex, have promoted the construction of infrastructure capable of charging all fuels such as LPG, electricity and hydrogen as well as gasoline and diesel at service stations.

This project was promoted to add private efficiency to the government’s plan to build 500,000 electric chargers and 450 hydrogen charging stations by 2025, significantly expanding electricity and hydrogen charging stations. SK Energy plans to build one-stop services such as fast charging for electric vehicles, washing and maintenance, GS Caltex and more than 40 fast chargers for electric vehicles every year, and Hyundai Oilbank plans to build more than 200 fast chargers of 100 kW or above. by 2023. Built. S-OIL plans to build more than 30 chargers annually and SK Gas and E1 plan to actively discover sites for hydrogen charging stations in the metropolitan area.

If business feasibility is confirmed through this pilot project, there is a possibility that 11,449 service stations located across the country in April this year will turn into charging stations for electric and hydrogen vehicles. If all the LPG charging stations built at the end of last year are converted over the long term, it means that more than 13,000 electric fast charging stations will be built.
