The CAS has concluded the arbitration procedure between the two parties. The controversy, which had lasted for four years, in which the organizers of the Lauberhorn classic had requested additional financial support from the national ski association, reached the TAS in April 2018. Two and a half good years, Wengener filed a lawsuit against Swiss Ski at the arbitration board.
The controversy finally escalated last May when Swiss Ski asked the FIS International Ski Federation to remove the World Cup races in Wengen from the following year’s calendar.
Amherd as a mediator
It was the beginning of a media campaign, in the course of which both sides initially insisted on their points of view, but then found a common denominator with the involvement of politics.
After talks with Federal Councilor and Sport Minister Viola Amherd in the federal building, Urs Näpflin, head of the Lauberhorn race organizing committee, and Swiss skiing president Urs Lehmann found a viable path. Wengen officials agreed, among other things, to withdraw the case before the CAS.
