The hype about the super talent of BVB Youssoufa Moukoko in 7 memes

On Friday a young man celebrates his sixteenth birthday in Dortmund. For many of this age, it is usually an opportunity to legally purchase a beer for the first time. But Youssoufa Moukoko is no ordinary teenager: he is a professional footballer and could make his Bundesliga debut the next day despite his young age.

This is only possible for a 16-year-old because Borussia Dortmund have successfully initiated a rule change. Partial use is foreseen when away from Hertha BSC (Saturday, 8.30 pm).

Moukoko’s budget is incredibly good. Since the summer of 2017, he has scored 141 goals in 88 competitive matches for BVB’s U17 and U19 teams.

This season he has scored 13 goals in four U19 games – in each of them he has scored at least one hat-trick.

Of course, youth football and adult football are two different things. But Youssoufa Moukoko was allowed to go to the retreat with the pros in the summer and as the young German national team player impressed coach Lucien Favre with his performances, he is officially part of the squad.

Prove over and over that coach Favre doesn’t look at the birthdates of his players. Jadon Sancho, Giovanni Reyna and Jude Bellingham made their debut with BVB at the age of 17 – all of them are the best performers despite their young age.

What speaks of commitment at the first opportunity: Favre should therefore not constantly answer questions about a possible debut of Moukoko. He would have it behind him and could let his talent in the storm ripen as he sees fit.

Moukoko, who grew up in Cameroon and took his father to Germany when he was ten in 2014, has already made the national manager’s note with his numerous goals. “It’s actually hard to believe that someone his age could score so many goals in the U19 Bundesliga – against players who are every two or three years older than him,” said Joachim Löw. “He is an extraordinary talent.”
