Young Boys win their permanent rivals’ first duel of the season 2-1 against FC Basel in Bern. Striker Meschack Elia scored the winning goal in the 61st minute.
The sequence of goals (0: 1, 1: 1, 2: 1) was the same as in the cup final on 30 August. After Elia’s goal, who pulled back on a short pass from Jean-Pierre Nsame, got the better of a defender and found themselves unsustainable in the far corner, Young Boys dominated the action until the end. Basler, for whom Pajtim Kasami played in defensive midfield, could not dominate in the finals and had no high-profile chances.
