The data is part of the latest market analysis report from the Gartner agency and reports an important rise for Xiaomi. The Chinese company managed to supplant the Apple giant in third place in the world hierarchy.

The report in question refers to the third quarter of this year and confirms the trends observed during the year. Huawei continues to fall and its counterparts, namely Xiaomi, continue to take advantage of this situation.

Xiaomi grew the most in the third quarter of 2020

In the period between July and September 2020, Xiaomi registered a 34.9% increase in the number of smartphones sold around the world. Furthermore, it was the company that recorded the greatest momentum and that already holds the third position in the world hierarchy.

With a total of over 44 million pieces of equipment sold in this period Xiaomi has left the American giant Apple behind. The latter has sold more than 40 million devices in the same period and despite the marginal contraction of 0.6%, it is now out of the top 3 in the world.

However, this negative trend from Apple is believed to disappear in the following quarter. This is due to the arrival of the iPhone 12 on the market, which are apparently receiving a good reception and should catapult Apple back to the podium.

At the top of the hierarchy is, unsurprisingly, a Samsung that is far behind its rival Huawei. South Korean technology grew 2.2% in the third quarter of 2020, for a total of over 80 million smartphones sold across the globe.

Huawei continues to plummet

Impossible not to notice the steady decline of Huawei, once aspiring to first place in this ranking. The Chinese have seen his number of sales contract 21.3%, which clearly distinguishes it from the rest from the negative.

Even so, the Chinese company has managed to sell more than 51.8 million smartphones all over the world. Without market sharing, China is believed to have played an important role in this register.

To complete the top 5 world sales, we have the Chinese Oppo. This company, which is expanding sharply in the Old Continent, has nevertheless recorded a 2.3% decline in sales, but not enough to distance it from the world elite.

The global smartphone market continues to decline

Looking at the market as a whole, there was a file 5.7% remain in smartphone sales compared to the same period in 2019. This translates into a reduction of approximately 20 million devices sold compared to the same period last year.

There were several reasons that contributed to this negative result. However, the Covid-19 pandemic has certainly played a key role, as people are more cautious about spending their money.
