WWE renounces “Cody Rhodes” brand

Since leaving WWE, Cody has stopped using his last name, fighting only with the name Cody, but never being able to use the nickname Rhodes, because the full name was a registered trademark of the WWE.

However, this may be nearing the end, because last Monday, November 2, WWE sent a notification to the USPTO to confirm the withdrawal of the “Cody Rhodes” trademark registration.

The “Cody Rhodes” trademark was registered by WWE in October 2009, with a duration of 10 years, and in the 6 months following the end of those 10 years the company was able to renew the license. When WWE allowed this deadline to expire, the same day Cody made a request to register it, and WWE sought to renew it later.

This out-of-the-ring fight may be about to end now that WWE has given up the “Cody Rhodes” branding, with the All Elite Wrestling fighter having the chance to finally fight under the name he is known for.

Interestingly, in October, Cody also gave up on registering the brands “The Match Beyond” and “Slamboree”, which belonged to WWE, so we may be facing some sort of truce between the two sides.

Did you expect to see WWE give up the “Cody Rhodes” trademark registration? Do you think Cody will adopt the name Cody Rhodes again as soon as possible?
