November 16 marked the last night of Monday Night Raw before WWE Survivor Series 2020. This show promised games for the title that could change the complexion of that great show as well as the likely appearance of various SmackDown stars looking to get a head start on their brand.
Drew McIntyre has demanded his WWE championship rematch against Randy Orton. While The Viper outsmarted and defeated The Scottish Psychopath at WWE Hell in a Cell 2020, McIntyre had Orton’s number more often.
New Day may be the most dominant tag team in WWE history, but fans haven’t had a chance to really see what Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods can do without Big E. Their biggest test to date has been Cedric Alexander. and Shelton Benjamin of The Hurt Business. , who had already won the Raw tag team champions.
Team Raw had a rough start, but the red brand tried to get the group on the same page. Keith Lee, Sheamus, Braun Strowman and Riddle fought against the cohesive unit Retribution. They hoped to prove they could work together and win, even against a dominant unit like the one led by Mustafa Ali.
Tonight it looked like the home show before Survivor Series. SmackDown and Raw have often sought an edge by invading the other brand before Sunday. It was probably someone or a whole group that seemed to be causing trouble.
Raw had the monumental task of elevating the Survivor series after a lackluster month of construction. Fortunately, this stacked card could definitely make it.

Drew McIntyre opened the show to address what was to come. He called Roman Reigns for putting a pedestal on everyone else. Randy Orton appeared on the titantron, explaining that he was too good to lose or be troubled by any suspension he faced.
The Miz and John Morrison interrupted him as McIntyre headed for the bottom. They explained that they would have an impact regardless of who won in the main event. The A-Lister and The Shaman of Sexy called Bray Wyatt fear of them as they had a control over the WWE championship that no one else had.

Analysis
This was too long a reminder of everything that’s been done on Raw recently. The red mark is pedaling without direction. It’s the same story every week. McIntyre has made it clear that he and Orton have said the same things over and over without resolution.
Especially with a great show ahead, this should have been a much better start. The Scottish psychopath has done his best to elevate the content, but even his natural charisma can only go that far. It was flat and uninteresting, it was a waste of time.

Lana took on a brave face when she agreed to partner with the women who had tormented her, Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler. The female WWE tag team champions did not allow Lana to do very quickly as they isolated Mandy Rose, who was badly injured in her elbow on the steel steps.
After Jax and Baszler also dominated Asuka and Dana Brooke, Lana found an opportunity to potentially pin the Raw female champion. However, The Empress of Tomorrow was kicked out and trapped her in Asuka’s lock to force a submission.
Jax feigned respect for his partner, then grabbed Lana and sent her with a Samoan drop across the announcement table for the ninth time.
Backstage, Reckoning attacked Brooke as she tried to explain the extent of the injuries Rose had suffered at the hands of Baszler and Jax.

Asuka, Rose and Brooke def. Lana, Baszler and Jax for pinfall.

Analysis
The commercial break during this match was longer than the actual action in the ring, and it looked like hardly anyone had benefited from it in this contest. Again, Lana plays the heel in an attempt to steal a win, but has failed. He does not earn the Samoan drops. However, she too has not earned anyone’s sympathy.
At best, this story kept Lana relevant without overexposing her weekly. Maybe WWE can make her a middle babyface for the red brand. It will take a truly impressive effort for the Survivor series to make it happen.

AJ Styles distributed the Team Raw matching Raw shirts, but no one was interested. The Phenomenal later discovered that his bodyguard could speak based on Riddle’s comments. Bray Wyatt named The Miz in The Firefly Fun House after his comments to start the night.
MVP explained that The Hurt Business had to represent Raw as the group was the best of the best. Shelton Benjamin promised that he and Cedric Alexander would win and defeat The Street Profits at the Survivor Series while Bobby Lashley took out Sami Zayn. Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods were not impressed.
Hurt Business started out trying to slow down and dominate Kofi, hitting an impressive combination of famous top rope / powerbombs. The former WWE champion battled with a very high quality DDT to bring the tag to Woods.
Woods left with a momentum that allowed him to clear the ring of both men. An impressive missile dropkick on Alexander nearly won. Kofi survived an Angle Slam and brainbuster then arranged a Daybreak for the pinfall victory over Alexander.
Result
Woods and Kofi def. Alexander and Benjamin for pinfall to keep Raw Tag Team Championships.

Analysis
This match attempted to save the show, but the pace with the commercials was awkward. It never felt like the teams started until the second commercial break. From that point on, the teams have truly shone in what has become a great athletic showcase.
If it was pay-per-view, it would have been great. Instead, the beginning and the end held back the teams. The contest has been better than anything else on the show to date, which is worth quite a bit.
New Day vs. Street Profits had to happen to sell Survivor Series. At the moment, the card is flat, but that tag team match could be the absolute highlight of the whole evening.
