América de Cali beat Atlético Nacional 0-1 in the first leg of the quarter-finals in the 2020 Women’s League. The scarlets went from less to more and with a goal from Venezuelan Joemar Guarecuco, the portulaca who played with 10 players from minute 9, with the expulsion of Daniela Tamayo. While America also ended up with one less woman, after Carolina Pineda was sent off in the 23rd minute.

The first few minutes of the opening phase were based on strong play and a couple of clear chances on the part of the locals. America got the ball back and tried to get out quickly. In the 9th minute they sent Daniela Tamayo out of Atlético Nacional after a clash with Gisela Robledo. Despite the claims of the pursuit players, referee Jenny Arias upheld the decision.

The game continued with strong play and intensity in the center of the field. In the 23rd minute, Carolina Pineda of America was sent off, after a hold on María Agudelo. Referee Arias has been very strict with his penalties.

Both teams sought control of the ball and game action, sometimes Nacional entered the opposing area through set pieces, America held firm and came out fast, even if the scarlet could not be precise in the game. last step and often fell out of place.

In injury time and after a corner kick from Catalina Usme’s left side, Joemar Guarecuco reached the far post and at the exit of goalkeeper Katherine Tapia, the Venezuelan with a header put the American team ahead. It is the fourth league goal for the 26-year-old forward.

Despite having held the Atlético Nacional ball most of the time, the strength was for America which was repeating the “dose” of the previous year, when they won as a guest in the first leg of the quarter-finals.

In the complementary phase, Nacional made a change, Sara Pulecio gave way to Leysy Pulgarín. America keeps the same team and in the second minute a shot by Gisela Robledo touches the second scarlet goal. The locals tried to get out with the ball on the ground but failed to get past the center of the playing field.

As the minutes passed, Nacional was betting on their game in the opposite goal. America had order in defense and tried to go out with direct play. About 25 minutes, the visit started to make some variations. Guarecuco touches the second goal after a great play by Wendy Bonilla, who entered a few seconds earlier.

In the average match time, the scarlet were the rulers of the ball and tried to exploit the spaces that the Nacional gave to their defense. Ultimately, America takes advantage of it as it did last year at this same stage. The return match will be in Cali, next Saturday, from 3pm.
