The “Android Auto wireless for all” project is making progress, the creators of AAWireless share some news with us.
Android Auto can be used wirelessly with any smartphone from Android 11, but not all vehicles with Android Auto have the necessary WiFi functions. A small box that can be adapted with the required WiFi functions should help. AAWireless has been known for some time, the crowdfunding project has skyrocketed and the development of the final hardware is underway. There are news!
There is a first video showing a 3D rendering of the final WiFi box. But anyone expecting more than just such a simple box will be disappointed:
USB-C connects the box to the vehicle.
Quick start, wireless updates and more
This week’s update is a little more exciting, where the creators have revealed even more details about the current state. For example, the OTA update functionality is ready, the first stress tests have been successfully passed, other errors have been corrected, and the start of the box has been reduced to six seconds. How quickly Android Auto can actually be seen on the car’s infotainment also depends on the smartphone in question.
They are currently working on various functions, including rewriting the companion app. Also, the backend will be ready soon, which among other things will control the distribution of updates. CE, FCC and other major certificates are still ongoing, but the ongoing process will soon be completed.
AAWireless: this is how delivery works
As the manufacturers reveal, there should be a warehouse for local orders directly within the EU. The first devices are expected to leave the factory in the second half of December. Crown and holidays may cause delays.
