Why I think the Samsung GALAXY Note20 Ultra is the most complete smartphone launched in 2020: Gadget.ro – Hi-Tech Lifestyle

[ad_1]

I use a Samsung GALAXY Note20 Ultra in the daily driver position (my base phone). I spent a good few months testing and comparing it with other premium smartphones, and jotted down a few ideas before reviewing in this article.

The Note series is one of the most successful premium smartphone series over the past decade. Samsung came up with the idea of the phablet, a phone with a large screen and stylus. Meanwhile, most smartphones have a large display and the South Korean giant is preparing to take the step more seriously towards another series of devices (more details in a separate article).

I immediately go to the question of the title, without lengthening the introduction.

  1. The best display on the market;

Samsung always restores the standards in the field and GALAXY Note20 Ultra has the best smartphone screen of 2020. It is a 6.9-inch curved display with Dynamic AMOLED 2X technology with a resolution of 3088 × 1440 pixels, protected with Corning Gorilla glass Glass Victus with the option of a 120Hz refresh rate on FHD resolution or 60Hz on QHD and the display-to-body ratio reaches 91.7%!

It has HDR10 + certification. The colors are displayed naturally, they also point to the brightness side where with Auto set the threshold of 1500nits is exceeded! Other premium mobile phones boast half values. High brightness = readability on the screen under the action of sunlight.

You can configure it according to your preferences. In Settings / Display you can choose the screen modes (Vivid or Natural), the white balance for colder or warmer colors, the advanced settings offer customization for the primary colors (red, green and blue). There are many other elements that can be configured by the user (dark mode, adjustable brightness, blue light filter, etc.). Some options are pretty normal for a 2020 smartphone.

It is a real pleasure to browse content on Netflix, Prime or YouTube on the Note20 Ultra screen.

  1. The most complete software of 2020;

I need to explain what I mean by more complete software. The idea is that Samsung has a suite of options, some of which might be found in the competition, but somehow they have it all in one package.

I mean features like:

  • Secure folder (the best integration of a protected folder with images, videos and other documents, with cloud backup and restore to new device, etc.);
  • Samsung DeX which allows the emulation of a desktop interface on a larger screen (laptop, monitor, TV);
  • Windows link that has been updated (mobile applications can be accessed directly on a Windows 10 computer).

A UI is an interface that has been copied from the competition. It has been optimized for large format screens. Numerous options are available, and here you will find the widest range of AOD theme, wallpaper and screen gallery options. GALAXY Store is a popular app store option.

Additionally, Samsung offers support for 2 years in terms of porting the latest Android software and 3 years in terms of firmware. Every month there are firmware updates that compile the latest Google security patches, but also improvements and bug fixes discovered by the software development team.

I could write whole pages with One UI interface options, with how you can customize your phone, etc.

  1. The best sound on a smartphone;

GALAXY Note20 Ultra I would say it resets the standards in the field. The two stereo speakers have a lot of bass and don’t distort in any way at full amplitude. Audio quality is maintained regardless of whether wired or Bluetooth headphones are connected. I recommend the GALAXY Buds Live for a full audition (and they’re not that expensive, around 5-600 lei depending on your preference).

One speaker is at the base and the other at the top of the screen. You don’t need a mini speaker with the GALAXY Note20 Ultra. Related to Buds Live, the software helps a lot and the dedicated application offers options like Dynamic, Bass, etc. (Set the headphones as you wish, depending on what you listen to, etc.).

  1. The best camcorder of 2020 and one of the best cameras on a premium smartphone;

On the video side, I would say that Samsung has managed to deliver the best smartphone in 2020, and at the camera level it is among the best smartphones and the firmware will improve it further.

Shoot in 8K at 24fps or 4K at 30/60 fps or 1080p up to 240fps or 720p at 960fps. PRO points on the video side: smooth transition between frames, optical image stabilization (some resolutions have gyroscope-EIS + OIS), let’s say you have your phone on a gimbal stabilizer. Don’t get the hand shake, even in situations where it’s a little cold outside and shoot for a few good minutes.

At the camera level:

  • 108 Megapixel wide and 26 mm equivalent with f / 1.8, PDAF + autofocus via laser technology, OIS;
  • 12 Megapixel periscope with f / 3.0 and 120 mm equivalent, PDAF + OIS, 5x optical and hybrid zoom up to 50x;
  • 12 Megapixel ultrawide with f / 2.2, angle of 120 degrees and equivalent of 13 mm.

It handles very well during the day, well on the zoom side and at night, very well in portraits. You will find more details in the phone review, the image gallery will have over 70 images taken with the Note20 Ultra + an entire suite of videos.

  1. Stylus at the best level of integration so far;

Latency has dropped to 9ms, and now allows remote functions to be activated. Those who appreciate the stylus, an important element in the Note series, have the best integration in the Note20 Ultra so far. When you use it to write notes, it feels like you are using a pen on a piece of paper.

I’m not necessarily one of those who use the stylus, but I can’t help but notice Samsung’s constant evolution over time, although they have no competitors nearby. If you are in the creative field, designs, etc. Note20 Ultra is somewhat the natural choice.

More details to structure in the review. In my opinion, GALAXY Note20 Ultra is the most complete smartphone of 2020. We can expand the discussion in the comments section.
