The latest app update will have a new feature that allows users to automatically delete messages, seven days after sending. This functionality must be activated in each chat individually in the “disappearing messages” option. However, old messages will not be deleted and screenshots cannot be avoided.
Unlike the competition, Facebook-owned WhatsApp has decided to provide some flexibility to its users. “We started with seven days because we believe that conversations are not permanent and offer some peace of mind, but remain practical so that the user does not forget what they are talking about,” says the company.
Furthermore, the goal is that conversations via WhatsApp become identical to reality, face to face and therefore do not have to be archived forever.
The ability to delete messages comes one month after the launch of a shopping service in some countries such as the US and Brazil. This service allows users to consult the catalogs of items for sale and to complete the purchase without leaving the app. Stores that are already present on Facebook will operate directly on WhatsApp, i.e. it will not be necessary to create a second store. However, for the first time, users will see that their activities in the app fuel the advertising of their Facebook profile.
