WhatsApp had been part of this project for months which, finally, has been incorporated into the application which has more than 2 billion users worldwide.

The topic reported by the app on its official blog is that WhatsApp messages tend to stay on phones indefinitely. “While it’s great to be able to save the memories of family and friends, most of the content we send doesn’t need to be saved forever,” the Facebook-owned platform noted.

WhatsApp: how do self-destructing messages work?

The temporary messages option starts working this Thursday. When activated in a chat, new messages sent to the chat will disappear after 7 days, helping the conversation to seem lighter and more private.

Often, explained WhatsApp, in an individual chat, both people can activate or deactivate temporary messages. In groups, only those who manage them will have the control to do so.

“In the beginning, we will offer the option to have messages disappear after 7 days because we believe that this time period will allow users to follow the thread of the conversation without forgetting what they were chatting about,” added the messaging service.

The user must also take into account that, after this time, received messages such as that supermarket list or last week’s news, will disappear from the chat if the option is activated.
