Captain Artyom Dzjuba, temporarily excluded from the Russian Sbornaja, admitted mistakes in a video message. “I’m not ideal, like any other person I make mistakes, we commit all sins,” the 32-year-old said in the clip in response to a video posted on the internet showing the striker masturbating.
He is himself responsible for the situation. “I can only blame myself,” he said. At the same time, he thanked those who had supported him during the difficult time.
While Djuba was temporarily banned from the national team on Sunday, he went on to play for his club Zenit St Petersburg. There he also scored the winning goal against Krasnodar in the Russian Premier League match on Sunday night. Zenit manager Sergei Semak had withdrawn the captain’s armband for the match, but at the same time secured Djuba’s support.
“I think everyone is wrong. For me, all footballers are like children. I think that no parent moves away from their child. I’m doing everything I can to support him, “said Semak, according to sports portal Championat.com. Russian state television has launched a campaign to support Djuba.
It’s his fault
Zenit director general Alexander Medvedev said now everything depends on Djuba himself to get out of the predicament. “A personal matter of the attacker has become common property and the subject of public discussion, which it shouldn’t be,” he said, according to state agency Tass.
Djuba said he hoped to continue his life with dignity. “I thank fate for the lessons, which are painful and brutal for me, but it’s my fault.”
Sbornaja is preparing for three international matches from Sunday. On 12 November the national team played a friendly against Moldova in Chisinau. On November 15, Russia will face Turkey in the Istanbul Nations League and on November 18 in Belgrade against Serbia. Russia lead the last two games of Group 3 of League B by eight points clear of Hungary (7), Turkey (3) and Serbia (2).
