Users can submit their own photos

With Google Street View, app users can now also create their own images. The function is already activated at least in Costa Rica, Indonesia, Nigeria and in the cities of Houston, New York and Toronto. It should fill in the gaps in Google Street View, but also ensure that outdated images can be replaced if necessary.

Google Street View allows for user images

As is known, Google Street View shows everything there is to see from the street: by entering an address, for example, you can look at the building there as if you were in front of it. So far, Google has provided the necessary images on its own. We remember the cars that sneaked into German cities with rooftop cameras to take the appropriate photos. Now, as ComputerBase reports, users of the Google Street View app can also submit their own photos, at least in some regions that have already been activated.

New app functions already partially activated

An update in the Street View app adds the ability to submit your photos. So far, however, only a few regions or cities are included. The city of Toronto is already active in Canada and the cities of Houston and New York in the USA. It is already possible to provide images for Google Street View in Costa Rica, Indonesia and Nigeria. To produce useful results, it is not enough to stand and take one or more photos. Rather, there is a function within the app that activates and then you use the smartphone, the camera aligned appropriately, to pass the location in question – a recording from the car is also possible. Google then processes the images to incorporate them into Street View. This is obviously particularly useful for places where there are no pictures yet or places where something has changed, for example due to a new building. The information for Google Maps should also be refined by the results.
