Langer finished his first round at Augusta National Golf Club with 68 strokes, setting his personal best. The 1985 and 1993 Masters Champion played all his experience with six birdies. In his previous 36 Masters opening rounds, he was only able to achieve this in 1993, the year of his second Masters triumph.

Second round a bit weaker

In the second round, the oldest participant on the field therefore needed 73 hits. Although he managed to win on four lanes, he also offered five bogeys. Langer remained a shot above the standard and was in shared 26th place before the end of the lap.

The first position in the standings after the first 18 holes was shared by a trio: the world number one Dustin Johnson (USA), the English Paul Casey and the South African Dylan Frittelli made 65 strokes each.

Tiger Woods could break two records

Superstar Tiger Woods had already finished round one on Thursday (November 12, 2020) with a personal best. The defending champion set his Masters start record with 68 strokes. “I have the feeling that I did it really well. I did well, I did well, my shots were good”Woods said.

The five-time winner of the tournament didn’t play a single one Bogey and remained four strokes under par – in his 23 appearances at Augusta Woods had only started well in 2010. Woods, who was recently quite weak in form, is aiming for two records in Augusta: with his sixth victory in the cathedral of golf, he will join record winner Jack Nicklaus and with his 83rd US tour success Sam Snead draw the level.

“Not my best game”

Favorite winner of the US Open Bryson DeChambeau experienced a start with ups and downs. The power plant came after a doubleBogey, a bugbear and five Birdies with two under par at the clubhouse. “Today was not my best match”DeChambeau said. On the par 72 course, he is still promising in the race.

The US Masters was postponed from April to November due to the crown pandemic, and this year it will be held without spectators.
