The TikTok phenomenon remains on the rise and, apparently, the popularity hasn’t been short-lived, but on the contrary, it’s here to stay. And even with all the problems, threats and blockades from the US government, Chinese demand has not lost ground.

The success of the short video platform is expected to continue for a long time, as TikTok continues to be the application with the highest number of downloads and revenues worldwide in October.

TikTok had a bad time with the Donald Trump administration. The US president was clear that he didn't want this app, like WeChat, to work in the country. The reason is that, according to Trump, these Chinese platforms served as a means of spying on the Chinese government, thus jeopardizing the security of US citizens.

This attitude was not very welcome to the American population, and the good news is that, for now and according to a court order, TikTok will remain active in the United States.

TikTok remains the most downloaded app in the world

Famous data analytics company SensorTower recently released top 10 downloads and earning apps.

As for downlodas, TikTok is the application, which is not a game, with the most transfers. This result is achieved both globally and in particular in the AppStore and Google Play stores.

In October 2020 alone, the Chinese short video platform handled 66 million downloads, an increase of 9.5% over the same period last year.

But the largest share of these downloads refers to the Chinese version of the app, Douyin, which is responsible for 12% of the total downloads.

WhatsApp is the second most popular app in the world, with 57 million installs last month. In this case, India is the country where the app is most popular, with 30% of transfers.

Facebook, Instagram and Zoom occupy the third, fourth and fifth place respectively of the applications with the most downloads globally.

If we talk about recipes, in an overview TikTok holds the top spot, leading users to spend 115 million dollars (~ 97 million euros) in October of this year. This amount corresponds to 6.2 times more revenue than those obtained in the same month in 2019.

About 86% of TikTok's revenue comes from the Chinese version of Douyin, and 8% comes from the United States.

The app maintains the leadership in this category in the AppStore, while on Google Play it does not even appear in the top ten.

YouTube is the second highest-grossing app globally last month, with $ 94 million (~ € 80 million). This result corresponds to an increase of 58% compared to the same period last year. Nearly 56% of the revenue from Google's platform comes from the United States and 11% from Japan.

Tinder, Tencent Video, and Disney + are the third, fourth, and fifth highest-grossing apps last month, respectively.
