This wave of infections could be worse than Corona – health

The corona pandemic may have paved the way for an infection worse than the virus itself.

We still don’t know how long the corona pandemic will last. Some experts believe we must learn to live with the virus. One of their direct consequences could, however, be the rise of a super-germ in hospitals, which can trigger another terrifying wave of infections, as a US study suggests.

As National Geographic reports, previous data indicate that the influx of patients with Covid-19 is leading to an increase in infections from the multi-resistant “Candida auris” germ. Compared to cases reported in 2018, the rise in coronavirus infection and hospitalization of patients are said to have resulted in a 400% increase in the United States alone.

The germ stays under the skin for a long time

The so-called “Candida auris” is a yeast capable of infecting open wounds and ears. The germ can also reach the bloodstream and cause severe inflammation throughout the body. It also attaches to surfaces and is particularly popular with patients who need to be provided with tubes and catheters. The superbug is durable and stays under the skin for a long time. It doesn’t necessarily have to trigger symptoms.

This wave of infections could sometimes take on even worse traits. The corona pandemic may not be our biggest problem.
