LE FIGARO.- An Ipsos survey conducted in 15 countries at the beginning of October places the French in first place among those reluctant to vaccinate against Covid (46%). Can we explain it?
Jeremy WARD. – A development is observed after the first confinement: a large part of the population no longer seems to feel personally threatened, perhaps because the mortality rate has dropped. Furthermore, not much is known about these vaccines, which were produced at an unimaginable rate four months ago.
Is French mistrust cultural?
Historically, vaccine reluctance remained low in France until the hepatitis B episode and then the H1N1 flu episode.. Since then, we have been living through a complicated decade of vaccination, chaining the debates over aluminum adjuvants, the HPV vaccine, multivalent vaccines, all the way to mandatory vaccination.
