But a model stands out from the top 20 of the best smartphones of the year. It’s even on par with the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra and the Galaxy Z Fold2 5G, which costs around 1,200 euros.
It is the Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite. The smartphone is currently available for just under 250 euros. The testers especially praise the smartphone’s battery, display and stability. The affordable Xiaomi smartphone was rated “very good” in all three categories. Since there is only one “satisfactory” rating for the camera and “handling”, it is ultimately only enough for a rating of 2.1.

Good and cheap too: the surprise smartphone of the year
The Samsung Galaxy A31 (2.2) and Galaxy A51 (2.3), for example, are a little worse but still good. The inexpensive Motorola Moto G8 Power and the two Xiaomi Mi 9 Lite and Redmi Note 9 Pro models also scored “good” with an overall rating of 2.4. One of the cheaper smartphones with the “good” grade is the Huawei P40 Lite. But buyers have to do without Google’s services.
Surprisingly, two smartphone models from Oppo also enter the list of good and affordable devices. The Oppo A72 has a “good” rating (2.4) and is currently available for around 175 euros. The Oppo A91 is a bit more expensive at 250 euros, but it also gets an overall rating of “good” (2.4) in the Stiftung Warentest test. According to the testers, it has a slightly better display than the cheaper model, but also a shorter battery life.

Conclusion
A good smartphone doesn’t have to be expensive. Chinese manufacturers like Xiaomi and Oppo in particular show this very impressively. But Samsung can also keep up with its box office success, the Galaxy A51. However, the model is somewhat more expensive than the competition.
