“The Athens Bar Association has a long democratic tradition. Since its founding, the DSA, as the first and largest legal association in the country, has come a long way in public life, closely linked to political and social developments. Its historical course reflects the progressive expansion of the legal profession and at the same time reflects the significant role of its representatives and their diverse and numerous functions in Greek society The action of the Association has been inextricably linked to the people who have committed to represent it by participating in its Board of Directors Most of them have actively participated in the political and social life of the country, in numerous cultural, social and scientific associations. Such behavior will be judged by the competent judicial and disciplinary bodies and any reference to it will be considered irrelevant. Also, you know the political disagreements I have with the president of the DSA, but you also know that whenever we disagreed, he went public, just as we publicly agreed and cooperated on institutional matters.
But I do not question your diligence, because for the past three years we have been collaborating honestly every day on most institutional issues, which we constantly resolve with the sole interest of the entity we represent.
I have to tell you that, apparently, while elected public advisers rushed publicly on social media and in the press, with loud statements, calling for the resignation of the president, they did not find the same courage to ask her directly during the discussion in this advice.
Did something change his mind? I see an elected colleague playing videos of a private moment on social media, thus satisfying his cannibalistic instincts or personal political ambitions, in an obvious alliance with journalists – parliamentarians and party factions.
I also wonder, if the colleague accepts the order of a citizen who was harmed by the publication of a video, will he reply that he cannot take it because he does not believe he is worthy of the law?
Today I heard the president reply that the elected colleague who complains about him has publicly invited friends, to his party, to his office to treat them. Isn’t that part of the same anti-law behavior? And of course this statement is not compensated, as has been heard. And I say this, not because I’m looking for whether he did the right thing or not, but because obviously this is also a human moment, a private moment.
I also disagree with the opinion held here by an elected colleague, according to which there are no private moments in the office of the president of the DSA Such a view would be supported only by authoritarian regimes, because the human being is deprived of the inalienable right to personality, the right to be human.
The question that arises in this case is HOW MUCH this private moment can go and I believe we will disagree on these limits.
And we will disagree, because I strongly believe that this place is sacred, it comes from the history of DSA from Esslin and Raktivan and extends to Zafeiropoulos, Polydoras, Takis Pappas, Roupakiotis, Paxinos, Adamopoulos, Alexandris, and respect for the office of president of the Athens Bar Association. Respect in Greek society, which faces daily deaths and thousands of cases.
Ladies and gentlemen, the sea wants respect. As you know my views on apologies, I tell you that from the moment the president has apologized, they must be accepted as sincere.
