Through his lawyer, Santiago Lara filed the request to Argentine justice to obtain DNA samples and confirm his relationship.

Shortly after the burial of Diego Armando Maradona, a young Argentine who claims to be the son of a football legend asked for the body to be exhumed to obtain DNA samples, local media reported.

Santiago Lara, 19, through his lawyer, submitted a request to the courts of the city of La Plata on Friday asking that the body of ‘Pelusa’ be exhumed and sent to the judicial morgue, as well as being able to have access to the autopsy results and DNA analysis.

“I ask that the precautionary measure consisting of a non-innovation measure be resolved urgently so that direct relatives and / or third parties do not have full disposal of the corpse remains of my deceased father, so that the body is preserved, thus avoiding the eventual cremation, until the DNA test is completed“, reads the document presented.

The young man is the son of Natalia Garat, a model with whom Maradona is believed to have had a relationship for several years. Santiago’s mother died in 2006, aged 23, of lung cancer.

“Before his death, [Natalia] he had to take his fan out to speak and told a group of lawyers that I was Diego’s son, “Santiago said. “I just want to know who I am. I have no financial claims, “he added.

The young man’s attempts to prove whether he is the legitimate son of the former footballer began when the “Ten” was alive, but after several failed attempts to reach an agreement with the star’s legal team, he opted for the judicial route.
