This week NVIDIA launches two new videos that showcase next-generation technologies in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. One video shows Ray Tracing on and off, while another shows a side-by-side comparison of DLSS.

The first video shows the activation and deactivation of Ray Tracing. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War offers ambient occlusion with DirectX 12 Ultimate Ray Tracing, local shadows and RTX-accelerated sun shadows for more immersive gameplay.

Shadows create contiguous shapes and high resolution details without aliases or automatic shading. Ambient occlusion creates a sense of depth to make the environment more realistic. This shading technique determines how much light should fall on objects in the scene.

The video was captured in 4K resolution, Ultra Settings, with DLSS on a GeForce RTX 3090.

The second video is split into two screens, with DLSS enabled and disabled. The interesting part of the comparison is in the upper right corners: the SPF counter. Although it is difficult to distinguish the quality of the two images, the frame counter with DLSS enabled is about double that of the side with DLSS disabled.

This technology is capable of increasing in-game frame refresh rate by up to 85% at 4K on GeForce RTX GPUs, for a faster and more reliable gaming experience. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War features several other NVIDIA technologies, including:

  • NVIDIA Reflex reduce system latency;
  • NVIDIA Ansel in the campaign it allows framing and capturing exclusive high resolution screenshots;
  • Main features of NVIDIA in multiplayer, making sure your best moments are recorded and saved automatically.

The game is currently included for free when buying GeForce RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 GPUs.

NVIDIA supports the Nsight developer and graphics driver for Vulkan Ray Tracing

NVIDIA is also in the launch phase official Khronos Vulkan Ray Tracing extensions, plus a new developer driver. These extensions will be included in Game Ready and Studio drivers in the future, along with support for Ray Tracing in the Vulkan SDK in December. A part from that, Graphics Nsight 2020.6 was released today with support for Vulkan Ray Tracing extensions.

Bringing Ray Tracing to Vulkan has been a multi-year effort involving many companies and NVIDIA has taken an active leadership position at every stage of its evolution.
