LONDON, November 28 (Xinhua) – A further 15,871 people in Britain have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 1,605,172, according to official data released on Saturday.

The data showed coronavirus-related deaths in Britain increased from 479 to 58,130.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has named Nadhim Zahawi as the minister in charge of launching the coronavirus vaccine, Sky News reported.

According to Sky News, Zahawi had been appointed health minister responsible for the deployment of the shots.

The British government said on Saturday that it has also opened a new walking coronavirus testing center at Fleming House Car Park in Cumbernauld, Scotland.

The new facility was provided by the government as part of a campaign across the UK to continue improving the accessibility of coronavirus testing for local communities, media said.

England is currently under a one-month national lockdown, the second of its kind since the outbreak of the coronavirus in Britain, in an effort to quell the coronavirus resurgence.

To bring life back to normal, countries like Britain, China, Germany, Russia and the United States are racing against time to develop coronavirus vaccines. Enditem
