While the industry is starting to operate in a world that expects transparency, companies able to provide both for assets and for individual products – and do so with absolute confidence – have the opportunity to be the first leaders in the space.
14bis Supply Tracking hopes to be that company. Founded by Eleanor Mitch, CEO and Alexis Dames, CMO, the Houston startup is building a tracking solution, putting it on a blockchain and integrating with back-office systems to remove multiple steps in the process.
"We provide interoperability so you do not have to enter information into an Excel document," Mitch explained to FreightWaves at the company's booth at the D-Cars section of the Detroit North American International Auto Show.
The company started in 2017 by building a prototype for the US Air Force. He received his funding from Techstars. Mitch said that 14bis is looking for companies looking for data management or parts management solutions to expand testing.
The 14bis solution also provides analysis and a visual representation of where the good / product is and has been throughout the process. Mitch said that anything that can be tagged, both digitally and physically, can be monitored.

The main difference between existing technologies is the ability to provide tracking information on blockchain, which provides a reliable and secure method to ensure that information is correct.
"We provide the additional benefits of blockchain," said Mitch. "We create middleware and we can integrate with blockchain."
Mitch went on to say that the solution can handle both structured and unstructured data and easily pushes information into any ERP system.
In the area of freight transport, it is possible to track everything from packages to pallets to equipment. Mitch has also detected billions of dollars in counterfeit car parts that flow into the supply chain each year – a problem that also permeates the supply chain for trucking.
"We can provide security [with blockchain] to help companies protect their identity, "he said.
The previous work of the company in the aerospace sector was mentioned by Insight Success Magazine as one of the 10 most innovative aeronautical and aerospace solutions suppliers for 2018. In the recent Aviation Blockchain Challenge, sponsored by SAP.IO and Lufthansa, 14bis was named winner of the supplier's challenge.
