The launch of the SpaceX rocket, which will carry four astronauts to the International Space Station, has been delayed from Saturday to Sunday due to winds in the Kennedy Space Center area, the NASA chief announced today.
The launch is now scheduled for Sunday at 19:27 local time (00:27 in Lisbon), instead of Saturday at 19:49 local time (00:49), as originally planned, Jim Bridenstine explained.
The team that will be transported by SpaceX is made up of three NASA astronauts, the Americans Michael Hopkins, Victor Glover and Shannon Walker, and the Japanese Soichi Noguchi.
Docking at the International Space Station is scheduled to dock around 4:00 am on Tuesday.
This is SpaceX’s first six-month “operational” mission, which marks the resumption of manned flights from the United States in May, after nine years of interruption and dependence on Russia.
NASA officially certified the Crew Dragon capsule, developed by SpaceX for the transport of its astronauts on regular flights, on Tuesday, deeming it safe.
Space-X, a company founded by businessman Elon Musk, had already successfully completed a demonstration mission between May and August, transporting two astronauts to the International Space Station and returning them to Earth without incident.
