Queen Elizabeth II was interested in a blockchain diary published in Buckingham Palace, her office said.

The British Blockchain Association (BBA) sent the queen a copy of the sixth edition of its magazine, and her president received a letter from her private secretary’s office thanking her, as reported for the first time by the Financial Times.

The Journal of the British Blockchain Association included blockchain papers in relation to privacy law, project management and socio-technical perspectives.

“Her Majesty was interested to hear that the publication is the first open access blockchain research journal available in both print and online,” says the letter, shared on LinkedIn.

The Queen “much appreciated [the] thoughtful gesture, “added a member of his private secretary’s office.

Blockchain is the type of database used for cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.

The BBA is a non-profit organization that describes itself as “the most influential voice in the blockchain industry”. He says he works with groups including the United Nations, the UK’s Department of International Trade, universities, IBM and Microsoft.

The BBA describes the articles in its magazine as “readable and accessible to a wide audience”.

It is unclear whether the monarch had prior knowledge of the blockchain prior to receiving the diary.

Queen Elizabeth II isn’t the first royal to express an interest in cryptocurrencies.

In 2018, Crown Prince Alois of Liechtenstein told CNBC that digital tokens such as bitcoin were “something to look forward to” and could be used to streamline administration in the central European microstate. But he also noted that cryptocurrencies remain “very risky”.
