Queen Elizabeth II has a new job to find. Those who get the job can travel around the world with the British monarch. The main task is to support the senior manager in the office of the private secretariat. This includes, for example, coordinating appointments, meetings and inboxes.

Several years of experience and “excellent interpersonal and communication skills” are expected. The job posting, posted on the UK royals’ website, goes on to say: “With a proactive approach, you work efficiently with minimal initiative and guidance, and stay calm and organized even under pressure.”

The contract starts next January and is limited to two years. And what do you earn as a personal assistant at Buckingham Palace? The annual salary is the equivalent of over 38,800 euros for 37.5 hours per week.

Domestic workers earn more than € 15,000 less

It is currently the only work advertised by the British royal family. But only recently did Prince William and Duchess Kate seek domestic help through this route. However, he earns much less than a personal assistant. A domestic worker starts with an annual starting salary of 21,150 euros. This corresponds to a monthly salary of around 1,760 euros.

Incidentally, the highest salary was paid to the queen’s butler. Sir Christopher Edward Wollaston MacKenzie Geidt was Elizabeth II’s personal assistant from 2007 to 2017 and earned the equivalent of € 160,000 a year.
