Leader Marcos Rodríguez is accused of corruption in the organization he leads.

The president of the Bolivian Football Federation (FBF), Marcos Rodríguez, was arrested on Thursday, minutes after the game in which the national team was defeated by Ecuador (2-3) in La Paz, the third round of the South American qualifiers for the World Cup of Qatar 2022.

As reported by the local newspaper El Deber, Rodríguez has to answer alleged acts of corruption before the State Attorney General.

The active leader was arrested by plainclothes policemen in the official box of the Hernando Siles stadium, in the Bolivian capital, from where he would be transferred to Santa Cruz de la Sierra.

Rodríguez was denounced by the club authorities and the federation for alleged irregularities committed in the FBF, including the purchase of land with prizes for the construction of the ‘Casa de la Verde’, a high-performance center that will be assigned to the Bolivian national team.

The current president of Bolivian football took office on July 20, when he was vice president, following the death of the then-in-office César Salinas, due to the coronavirus.
