Former Tottenham forward-turned-expert Garth Crooks has identified the “perfect replacement” for Jordan Henderson at Liverpool.
Henderson shows no signs of slowing down, he’s only 30 and performing at the highest level, but the time will come when Jurgen Klopp will need a new midfielder to play that role.
And according to Crooks, there is one player who would be perfect to pick up Henderson’s cape: Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips.
Phillips was excellent for Leeds United in their first season in the Premier League, earning four calls to England and playing a starring role as Marcelo Bielsa’s men defeated Everton over the weekend.
Indeed, that performance was so good that Crooks suggested that Liverpool consider signing Phillips, writing in his BBC report of the week: “Leeds missed Kalvin Phillips against Leicester and Crystal Palace, but not against. Everton.
“The England international is making a name for himself and was too sharp for the Toffees.
“This guy reminds me of a young Bryan Robson, when the former Manchester United and England captain played for West Brom. Phillips can cover the ground, he’s not afraid to step on and sees the pass.
“It doesn’t grab your attention right away but over time you begin to understand the huge contribution he is making to the game.

“I think he is the perfect replacement for Jordan Henderson and I don’t just mean England.”
Liverpool have already been linked with Phillips, but they are not the only club connected to talk about a £ 50m transfer race for the England national team.
