People whose immune systems reacted strongly to the rubella smallpox vaccine, known as the MMR vaccine, may be less likely to become seriously ill if they are infected with the new coronavirus, new data show.

The researchers reported in the American Society for Microbiology journal “mBio” that among the 50 patients with kovid-19 under the age of 42 who received the MMR vaccine as children, a higher level of the so-called IgG antibodies produced by the vaccine and mainly directed against the mumps virus.
People with the highest levels of antibodies to mumps had an asymptomatic form of kovid-19.
However, more research is needed to show that the vaccine prevents a more severe form of covid-19 disease.
