What we know:
Reto Baumgartner is the new president of the FC Basel club
Bernhard Burgener announces in the video what to expect. That is to say that Reto Baumgartner was elected president with a large majority. The Aargau native laced his shoes for the FCB in the 1990s. His highlight was his promotion to the NLA in 1994. Baumgartner has been on the board of the association since 2009. Now the members have elected him the new president of the club. Baumgartner succeeds Burgener. Its share of votes has steadily declined over the past three years and was only 65% in 2019. That year Burgener, as well as CEO Roland Heri and Peter von Büren, did not even stand for election. Officially due to the unnecessary personal union of the club and the chairman of the board. Unofficially, however, probably also to prevent his own vote.
2589 members voted at the written general meeting
Votes were counted over the weekend and until Monday noon. This is much more than at a physical general meeting, for example in 2019 there were 1515. Overall, however, the FCB has more than 8000 members. More than two thirds of them chose not to vote. Perhaps also because it was a little too complex in writing.
Dominik Donzé and Benno Kaiser remain on the board
Besides Reto Baumgartner, there will be only two other members on the board in the future. The precedents Benno Kaiser and Dominik Donzé. Burgener says in the video: “All the other candidates have not achieved an absolute majority.” This means that not a single member of the Yystoo fiver makes it to the board. Silvia Schenker, Jo Vergeat, Patrick Fassbind, Tobias Adler and Daniel Schreier are as empty as the spontaneous candidates Dieter Bürge, Jean-Claude D. Gerber, Peter Hablützel, Felix Sutter and Peter Walker.
The new FCB statute is rejected
Contrary to the election of the club’s board of directors, FCB members follow the recommendation of the Yystoo movement. The revised and modernized statutes under the direction of Roland Heri were rejected. Burgener says: “Many members would like this subject to be dealt with in a physical general meeting.” Here the FCB must again on the books. According to Burgener, the revised statute should be put to the vote again at the next General Assembly, probably in early summer 2021, and then adopted.
Reto Baumgartner is also the association’s delegate in the AG
Since the new statutes have been rejected and the motion of Patrick Fassbind seems to be, the new president Reto Baumgartner is also the delegate. Represents the interests of the association on the board of directors of the AG. Burgener says he is looking forward to working with Reto Baumgartner, whom he has known well for years on the association’s board.
Burgener and Heri are not recommended for election
Members recommend the delegate in the AG not to vote for Bernhard Burgener as chairman and Roland Heri as board of directors. Only Massimo Ceccaroni will be re-elected. With this vote, the FCB members withdraw their trust from owner Burgener and CEO Heri. You will be re-elected to the Board of Directors without the vote of the delegate. But the members show that they are dissatisfied with the current leadership.
What we don’t know:
Exact numbers
The FCB did not announce exact figures on Monday except for the number of voting members. It remains open, among other things, at what percentage of the board members were elected or not and what percentage of the members were against the new statute. The club wants to release this information on Tuesday.
What do the winners and losers say about the results?
New club president Reto Baumgartner will comment on his election only on Tuesday. There was no response from Yystoo when we went to press.
And Yystoo?
After all, it’s a bit strange. With the statute and the election recommendation for the delegate against Burgener and Heri, the members of the FCB follow the recommendations of the Yystoo movement. However, none of the five Yystoo candidates will be elected to the board. Here the fundamental distrust of the members becomes clear.
