The plenary session of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) declared the 2016 law unconstitutional, which authorized the use of synthetic phosphoethanolamine, known as the “cancer pill”, by patients diagnosed with malignant neoplasm.
The decision was taken in the virtual session which ended last Friday 23. The action against the possible drug was presented by the Brazilian Medical Association.
The STF had already issued a preliminary injunction to suspend the rule. The text, now considered unconstitutional, was sanctioned by former president Dilma Rousseff in 2016. It is written by 27 members of Congress, including then MP Jair Bolsonaro.
