If you want to get hold of a new Playstation 5 before Christmas, you need perseverance and luck. It is true that new console assignments are always offered for sale. But the demand is greater than the supply.
The Playstation is also available in Germany from 19 November (Read our console test here) – at least in theory. As expected, the new console was sold out again shortly after sales began. Fans and traders alike have to wait again and again for supplies as Christmas draws closer and closer.
A small contingent was last put up for sale on Thursday 3 December. On that day, fans were able to try their luck at Otto, GameStop, Amazon, Euronics, Expert, and Medimax, among others. However, retailers’ online stores were often not available due to overhead. Anyone who has been able to place an order successfully must still be patient: retailers sometimes give very different delivery times.

Can I also buy the Playstation 5 in the store?
No. For the time being, consoles will only be sold through online stores. Disappointed shoppers can save themselves a trip to the store: if there are no more Playstations to buy online, the console is simply sold out and you have to hope for the next round of supplies.
This strategy, certainly frustrating for fans, is meant to avoid long lines and chaos in stores. Such scenes, as you can still remember from the launch of the Playstation 4, would hardly be justifiable during the crown pandemic.

What should I pay attention to when buying?
Even after a successful order, the console may never arrive. Even in the pre-order stage, several retailers were forced to cancel orders later. Apparently, this was due to a mixture of technical problems, poor planning and supply difficulties. Like many other electronics manufacturers, Sony also suffers from production problems due to the Corona crisis.

How much does the Playstation 5 cost?
The Playstation 5 is available in two versions: The standard model costs 500 euros. A driveless version – also known as the “Digital Edition” – is available for 400 euros. Some retailers apply the reduced VAT rate of 16 percent.
Except for the drive, the consoles are identical from a technical point of view. So users don’t have to compromise on performance when buying the cheapest model.
Retailers charge exorbitant prices on ebay
Since the console is so difficult to obtain in the normal way, there are already numerous usurious offers on ebay. As reported by the trade magazine “gamepro”, the new game console from Sony is offered there for more than 1,000 euros. Already in September, when it was possible to make the first pre-orders for the PS5, there were offers from resellers of up to 4,000 euros.
Behind this are probably the so-called “scalpers”, who snatch consoles from genuinely interested buyers with the help of automated programs – with the sole purpose of selling them later at a profit. However, many purchase offers could also be fraudulent ads.
What accessories can I buy?
A new dual-sense controller for PS5 is included. It runs on battery and is wireless. Furthermore, it should allow for a new gaming experience via haptic feedback. Read more about the controller here.
A second dual-sense controller costs around 70 euros. This is required to play PS5 titles. If you only want to play PS4 games, you can keep using your old gamepad.
Remote controls and HD cameras are also available. Headphones and charging stations are currently out of stock. The accessories will be shipped from November 12, one week before the console. Some can even be bought in stores.
