The hairdresser of the Berlin star dies at the age of 76

His clientele included German Chancellor Angela Merkel and former Chancellor Gerhard Schröder, models Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer and Heidi Klum, and actress Julia Roberts.

Active in Switzerland at a young age

Walz, born on 28 July 1944 in Waiblingen, Baden-Württemberg, as the son of a truck driver, entered professional life at the age of 14. He started his career with a hairdresser in Stuttgart, where he was initially an intern and then a trainee, but at that time apparently still with sobering results. According to a “Welt” report he was the third worst of 600 trainees in his year.

At the age of 17 he moved to Zurich, where he soon found a job in a St. Moritz salon on the advice of a Zurich hairdresser. Celebrities came and went in the salon of the trendy winter sports resort. At the age of 18, Walz was already doing the hairstyles of stars like Marlene Dietrich and Romy Schneider. He was particularly liked by his customers for his updates.

However, he didn’t stay long in St. Moritz. About a year later, the 19-year-old returned to Germany, more specifically to Berlin, which would remain the center of his life until the end. From the Berlin salon “Ina Sailer” he made his way. The door to the world of the rich and beautiful opened for Walz with internationally successful photographer FC Gundlach. He was friends with Walz and had his models styled by him. He later also worked for designers such as Wolfgang Joop, Jil Sander and Jean Paul Gaultier.

Additionally, Walz has also starred in documentary television series and soaps, advertised for diet products, hosted a talk show, and published books. He was married to his partner since 2008.
