The Google Assistant can reschedule actions

24. November 2020 – Google offers its voice assistant the ability to schedule commands in advance.

The Google Assistant is currently introducing the ability to control smart home hardware on a schedule, according to “9to5Google”. For example, you can now ask the assistant to turn on a lamp with a Philips Hue bulb at a certain time or to perform the action at a certain time. Furthermore, an action can only be performed for a certain period of time. “Hey Google, turn the light on for 5 minutes” would turn the light on almost immediately, but turn it off a few minutes later without needing another command.

Users can schedule command activation by specifying a time or duration. For example:
“Hey Google, turn on the light in five minutes.”
“Hey Google, turn on the lights at 7:00.”

Commands can be scheduled for the current day or another day within the next seven days. For example, users can also say:
“Hey Google, turn on my coffee machine tomorrow morning at 8:00.”
“Hey Google, turn on my vacuum cleaner at 5pm this week from now.”

The function is meanwhile limited to smart home devices. Actions such as playing music or other routines cannot be scheduled. However, the feature works on both Google Assistant speakers / displays and smartphones. Google also points out on a support page that scheduled actions can be canceled as a group or per device.
