Cryptocurrency, Litecoin (LTC) –While cryptography markets are struggling to maintain the price gains that have characterized the beginning of 2019, Litecoin has seen a small increase in popularity thanks to the efforts of an MMA promotion and its fighters.
While most investors might think of more conspicuous ways for encrypted advertising, it seems that the Litecoin Foundation has found a home in the promotion of LTC through the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). In December, the coin logo appeared prominently in the octagon of the mixed martial arts organization, during their pay-per-view UFC 233 event which peaked at over 2 million views.
On January 14, former Olympic wrestler Ben Askren, who is about to make his debut in the Ultimate Fighting Championship in a Welterweight game against Robbie Lawler for UFC 235, took on Twitter to promote both his upcoming game and the its official cryptocurrency partner: Litecoin.
In a 35-second video that has accumulated over seventy thousand views at the time of writing, the former ONE FC and Bellator Welterweight Champion gave a cry to LTC, thanking the Litecoin Foundation for sponsoring it in the event,
"Pumped for @LTCFoundation to sponsor me for UFC 235!"
Askren continued to tag Charlie Lee, founder of Litecoin, and John Kim, a prominent figure in the Litecoin community, as well as the #ltcwestcoast #ltceastcoast tags.
In addition, Askren has included a cry to Litecoin's broadest lover and investment base, thanking the community for his efforts through the Litecoin Foundation in guaranteeing him a sponsorship. He also claimed to be a supporter of LTC, including the "cause of LTC", allegedly promoting decentralization and promoting cryptocurrencies that can be used in transactions. Askren also continued to inform LTC supporters who hold "a lot of Litecoin", indicating it
"What's up with Litecoin Community? I just wanted to thank you for sponsoring UFC 235. I'm particularly honored to represent you, because you're a cause and something I believe in. Obviously I own a lot of Litecoin by myself, I think it's particularly nice when I do not get just a sponsorship, but when I find one where I believe and think I can help create a better future, and I think all of you guys see that vision too. While coins have had supporters in the past, Askren's claims have placed him not only in line with LTC's sponsorship, but also with the currency community. Litecoin, like most cryptocurrencies, has had little to stir up enthusiasm since it reached its all-time high during the December 2017 race.
However, through the marketing efforts of founder Charlie Lee – who became independent of the LTC price movements by selling his entire holding – and the Litecoin Foundation, LTC has been proactive in securing rather high-profile positions. In addition to being pre-eminent in the octagon during last month's pay-per-view event, support for Ben Askren could push the currency to an even wider audience when the UFC 235 kicks off on 2 March, showing that individual currencies and their community bases can do a lot through basic promotion.
