According to the Times, UEFA has rolled up its sleeves for the “Swiss system”. The classic and currently used system is expected to continue until 2024. So what is the Swiss system?
According to the system, 1 team will play 10 group matches against 10 different opponents and jump. In the system, the goal is that big teams will play more games with each other. Therefore, an increase in TV ratings and marketing revenue is expected.
There will be 32 teams in the Swiss system and these teams will be divided into 4 separate exchanges. 10 games will be played in the group. All matches will be played against different teams. There will be no separation between countries.
At the end of the group stage, the top 8 teams will have received the last 16 rounds directly. Elimination matches will be played for teams between 9th and 24th place. The 9th place team and the 24th place team will be matched. The 8 teams that pass the tour from here will remain in the UEFA round of 16. This top 24 team will qualify for the Champions League next season. Teams between the 25th and 32nd row will play qualifying matches to avoid relegation.
The teams will continue with a double game system until the final after the tournament tree. The final will be played as usual in a single match.
