The flu shot disaster

The scandals follow one another and are not the same, at the level of the Ministry of Health. Every day, when we thought we had hit rock bottom, the lights of this ministry still manage to amaze their world.

Among the other problems that plague the work of this ministry is communication which leaves much to be desired and which seems, well, more like cacophony than professional and orderly communication from a department concerned about being respected.

At the Ministry of Health, everyone and everyone talks and says about everything and more, on all matters. Those that concern him and that he masters, or not.

Every day we have new faces appearing from the small window to pretend to be a modern hero. Everyone would like to take some credit for fighting covid. Once anonymous doctors are hardly absent from television screens and social networks.

The ministry itself is unable to channel this flow of information and counter information. Everything is confusing and everyone wants to have a say and, above all, they want to be right. And in the face of all this, the ministry remains inert, to be observed, without intervening, to remedy the situation.

However, communication, when it comes to such an important and serious topic as covid, must be mastered and well controlled, so as not to spread nonsense and prevent anyone from giving up. opinion on a file that must be the exclusive competence of the ministry.

The typical example of the disasters caused by this dangerous communication, the problem of seasonal flu vaccines. We recall that an eminent researcher of the Ministry of Health, torn from his laboratory to make him the protagonist of television shows, had strongly advised, a few months ago, to all Tunisians to be vaccinated. seasonal flu, and especially patients with chronic diseases. He also insisted that this vaccination would be very beneficial to them, particularly in preventing them from contracting covid19 and influenza at the same time. Suddenly, people remembered that this vaccination was necessary and everyone rushed to the pharmacy to fight for this elixir, which suddenly became a source of life.

As a result, the doses imported by the ministry, which it did not consider useful to bring back in sufficient quantities, were snatched from pharmacies in a few hours. It was therefore necessary to import a second batch. And most importantly, it was necessary to release what was believed to be heavy artillery in terms of communication, to convince the Tunisian that being vaccinated against the flu did not protect against covid at all. But it was too late and the shot was gone.

As a result, the Ministry of Health is now in a rather delicate dilemma. That is to say, importing even more flu shots, when everyone knows they don’t protect against covid, or leaving upset citizens looking for a vaccine. Especially since those who received the doses that were there didn’t really need them. And suddenly it’s the people who really need it, who are left behind.

And no one, in all of this, had the idea of asking this illustrious researcher which fly was the point of saying these words?
