A Microsoft announced the purchase of Smash.gg, online esports tournament platform. The outcome of the partnership is not yet clear, but it would not be surprising to see the company organizing championships Alone, Gears or another of its proprietary titles.
“Today, we’re thrilled to take the first step on a journey by joining Microsoft to strengthen our existing relationships and explore new opportunities. Smash.gg will continue as a self-service esports platform available to organizers from all communities“, reads a banner on the Smash.gg home page.
Founded in 2015, the platform has emerged as a way to organize tournaments for Smash Bros., as the name suggests. Subsequently, the project expanded and today includes games such as Rocket League, Fortnite is Street Fighter V.
