The DJI Mavic Mini 2 will likely have a shorter name to suit its compact size, according to rumors suggesting the drone’s launch is imminent.
DJI’s current entry-level drone is called DJI Mavic Mini, followed by a range of “Mavic” models, which began with DJI Mavic Pro in September 2016. The latter was the first drone to combine compact, foldable dimensions with a 3-axis gimbal and a high-quality camera. .
Recently, DJI simplified its product names by eliminating its sub-brands, possibly in an effort to promote its products with an easy-to-remember name. The successor to DJI Osmo Pocket was called DJI Pocket 2, while DJI Ronin SC became DJI RSC 2 (recently released). According to a leak on the Chinese video sharing site Bilibili, the trend seems to continue with DJI Mavic Mini 2, which will probably be called DJI Mini 2. The site suggests that the launch of the new drone will be in November this year.
This is in line with @ OsitaLV’s recent Twitter post, which states that “the launch of DJI Mini 2 is imminent “. If there are rumors, we will see a new version of the drone at the latest in the coming weeks. This drone is highly anticipated by fans of the brand. That’s because it combines many of DJI’s “QuickShot” automated flight modes with a surprisingly capable 2.7K camera mounted on a 3-axis gimbal. This is also the difference between DJI Mavic and other drones designed for beginners. Many come without a motorized gimbal which creates unstable footage.
One of the drawbacks of the Mavic Mini drone was that it could not run 4K at 60FPS, this is also the expected improvement on the new model. Another possible change would be the price, with the new drone expected to rise to $ 399.
