The Democratic Republic of the Congo on Wednesday declared an end to the country’s latest Ebola outbreak, after the outbreak killed 55 people in the past five months.
“I am happy to solemnly declare the end of the eleventh Ebola virus outbreak in the province of Equateur“In the vast northwest of the country, Health Minister Eteni Longondo told reporters.
The World Health Organization said the latest outbreak killed 55 people out of 119 confirmed and 11 probable cases since it began in June.
The outbreak was “the longest, most complex and deadly” in the 60-year history of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Health Minister Eteni Longondo said.
It was only surpassed by the 2013-16 Ebola outbreak in West Africa which killed 11,300 people.
