Carlos Enrique Estremera Colón was born on 2 September 1958 in Santurce, Puerto Rico.

According to the biography published by the National Foundation for Popular Culture, his start in the professional world was as a percussionist in musical groups that were formed in the Barrio Obrero. His great opportunity arose when he joined the Mulenze 76 Orchestra, which had an exclusive contract with the Fania label.

In 1978, Estremera met Bobby Valentín, who invited him to join his group. The first song he recorded for Bobby’s orchestra was “Her Wedding”. With Valentín, Estremera recorded six albums, including two as a soloist. At the end of 1984 he decided to leave the orchestra to found his own group a year later.

In this new stage “El Cano” is dedicated to the interpretation of music of all genres. In 1986 he won the Paoli Award as “Salsa Singer of the Year” and the “Pride of the Caserío” award, awarded by the Puerto Rico Urban and Housing Renovation Corporation.

In 1988 he debuted as a producer of his own albums with the album “Salvaje”. A year later he released the production “Dueño del Soneo” which marked the beginning of a new series of recordings in his professional career.

El Cano, who inherited the congenital anomaly of albinism, was recognized in the industry as one of the most important rattles in the Afro-Caribbean countryside at the turn of the century. As it has been verified, in the summer of 1990 he performed 105 sounds in a row without repetition of stanzas in a concert held in Guánica. In the same year, he surpassed his feat by improvising 128 sounds in the city of Yabucoa. While weeks later, in front of 5,000 spectators who filled his show in Juana Díaz, he increased his number to 130 soneos.

“With unparalleled acuteness when it comes to improvising in code, Cano Extremera has no qualms about proving why he earned the epithet” Owner of the Soneo “. with which he was initially known, goes hand in hand with his sincerity as an artist and citizen “, reads the letter.

Among the musical hits of Cano Estremera are “Las ingratitudes”, “Manuel García”, “If I get better”, “Woman and spring”, “I have the desire left”, “The automatic girlfriend”, “Awilda “,” Commitment “,” I was born and that’s how I am “,” Take advantage of what’s mine “and” Social Friday “.
