The development of the most anticipated covid-19 vaccine is currently on the bottom rung. There are 11 vaccines in the final phase of call testing and approval for the European and American market could be obtained later this year or early next year.

While Slovenia has set a new black record with 59 deaths to victims of covid-19 disease, several pharmaceutical companies are at the end of vaccine development.

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) is currently testing three vaccines from pharmaceutical companies Pfizer and BioNTech, the University of Modern and Oxford together with AstroZeneca.

The first two vaccines could be approved by EMA this year or early next year, and in the United States Pfizer and BioNtech, which are jointly developing the vaccine, were the first to apply for emergency vaccination approval.

Their vaccine was found to be 95% effective, similar to the vaccine from the American company Moderna, which, according to their data, is 94.5% effective.

Both vaccines belong to a new group of ribonucleic acid (mRNA) -based vaccines.

The University of Oxford and the AstraZeneca vaccine on a different basis

The vaccine from British-Swedish pharmaceutical giant AstraZenec and the University of Oxford is based on a weakened version of the adenovirus, which contains the genetic material of the S protein. This develops in the body after vaccination and prepares the immune system for a coronavirus attack.

Are Slovenians in favor of vaccination?

Although Slovenia was severely affected by the second wave of the epidemic and the virus is still strongly present in Europe (image below), there is still little interest in vaccination against covid-19. At least that’s what we can conclude from Valicon’s findings, which notes that more than half of the population does not intend to be vaccinated against the novel coronavirus when the vaccine becomes available. You can read more about it Here.

Slovenia is preparing a national strategy

Slovenia, meanwhile, like several European countries, is preparing a national vaccination strategy against covid-19. Vaccination will be voluntary and free for the population, as the money for the vaccines will be provided from the state budget, he announced two weeks ago. Doroteja Novak Gosarič, Secretary of the Health Department of the Ministry of Health.

Slovenia will secure the coronavirus vaccine in a joint public procurement led by the European Commission in close cooperation with EU Member States. As Novak Gosarić explained, the European Commission is negotiating with seven vaccine manufacturers, and the European Union has already concluded a pre-agreement with four of them, which includes price, conditions of supply and delivery times.
