The first episode of Chase’s newcomer Darragh Ennis yesterday saw the quiz show break records, attracting the most viewers of any daytime show this year, excluding news, coronavirus briefings and sports.

A whopping 4.9 million viewers tuned in to watch the debut of the new Chaser, also breaking The Chase’s all-time record, which had been set the day before as a wait for its appearance.

On both Wednesday and Thursday, more than a third of TV viewers tuned in to The Chase.

Darragh joins Chasers’ lineup after competing as a contender in the series in 2017.

He previously faced Paul Sinha but was unable to take home the cash prize with his team.

As is customary, he was given an intimidating nickname by host Bradley Walsh, who yesterday introduced fans to Darragh “The Menace” Ennis.

Speaking of participating in the long-running quiz show, Ennis said: “I’m so happy to be the sixth Chaser. It’s great to be part of such an amazing quiz team and so much fun to work with Bradley Walsh. It’s such an exciting opportunity and I’m looking forward to taking on other competitors! “

Bradley added: “Another pursuer? ANOTHER CHASER? This is another smarter person than me in The Chase. I need to talk to the producers. But I can’t wait to educate Darragh about the important things in life; creams, cowboy movies and lager. “

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV. If you’re looking for more content to watch, check out our TV Guide.
