The managing director of Coinbase, Brian Armstrong, has joined other super-well-heeled people by pledging to donate a large part of his assets to charity or other causes.
In a post on The Giving Pledge website – founded by Bill Gates and Warren Buffet to encourage the rich to donate their wealth to deserving causes – Armstrong said:
"Once you reach a certain level of wealth, there is little additional benefit to spend more on you. … Whether it is through better education, creating a more homogeneous playing field or growing economic freedom, I am interested in helping more people see their ideas come to fruition in the world. "
The CEO revealed that he signed the undertaking through a Tweet Thursday, saying, "I'm still at the start of my journey to discover how to get the maximum impact through philanthropy, and today I'm proud to join the Giving Pledge as part of this journey."
The Giving Pledge describes itself as "an effort to help address the most pressing problems of society by inviting the world's richest individuals and families to allocate more than half their wealth to philanthropy or charitable causes during their lifetime or their will ".
So far the list has 187 super rich pawns, ranging from Elon Musk to Richard Branson and Michael Bloomberg to David Rockefeller.
Armstrong did not reveal in his office which, if any, the proportion of his wealth had pledged to donate to the causes, but he said:
"This year I started my first philanthropic effort, GiveCrypto.org, which transfers money directly to people living in poverty, I am excited about the potential that this organization can help people, but I am still at the heart of it. beginning of my journey to discover how to get the maximum impact through philanthropy ".
