The battle of the consoles: which is the best, the Playstation 5 or the Xbox Series X?
Beatles or Rolling Stones, Cola or Pepsi? Those were the big questions of the last century. Now we ask ourselves: Playstation or Xbox? And of course we disagree.
Summary
- Playstation 5: Consoles require video games
- Xbox Series X: a step into the future of video games
Playstation 5: Consoles require video games
Performance, ease of use or design are secondary, video game offering is key. And what the manufacturer Sony can offer in this field, has already demonstrated with the Playstation 4: titles such as “Bloodborne”, “Spider-Man”, “God of War” and “Last of Us” are among the best video games of the latest generation of consoles – and are only available on Playstation.
The same can be expected on the Playstation 5: unlike the Xbox, Sony’s new console starts with a range of new video games that not only cover different genres, but also showcase the console’s new features. The show begins when you switch on with “Astro’s Playroom” – the pre-installed game on PS5 shows from the first minute how impressive the new controller is. With vibration and adaptive keys, it can simulate things that happen in the game: if you pull a bow, the key gets harder when pressed. Video games thus reach a physical level that enhances the experience.
With two other titles, “Spider-Man: Miles Morales” and “Demon’s Souls”, Playstation also shows what can already be graphically brought out of the console. Whether it’s reflections on New York City skyscrapers or crackling flames in dark dungeons, everything appears in a new splendor.
Technically, however, the loading times are even more impressive than the graphics: instead of minutes, it only takes seconds to get right in the middle of the action, beyond the times you’ve picked up your phone at each loading screen. That way you have more time for games, and that’s what it’s all about.
Xbox Series X: a step into the future of video games
The computer industry is more conservative than one might think: for decades the same games have been reissued and sold on discs. Time for a breath of fresh air. Microsoft imitates Netflix and no longer relies only on individual games, but on subscriptions: with a monthly fee of 15 francs you get access to as many as 100 top games (initially). So we no longer have to decide if we want to shoot ourselves through the latest “Call of Duty” or “Battlefield”. Let’s try both. Plus, Xbox games are no longer limited to TV.
They can now also be streamed to a smartphone or tablet. Where did you stop on television, you keep playing on your mobile. The Xbox becomes your gaming cloud. Not only are gamers listening, but Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella is also listening. Since he was at the helm, the group has successfully developed into a cloud service provider. Now he is also becoming interested in the games division. His wallet is loose.
Microsoft just took over Studio Bethesda. Great RPGs like “Fallout” or “The Elder Scrolls” and traditional shooters like “Doom” or “Wolfenstein” are likely to be Xbox exclusive titles in the future. But that’s not enough. The group has already announced the purchase of additional studios. The days of Sony having the best games will soon be over.
Do you need more arguments? Oh yeah, the new compact Xbox will definitely fit any TV, but Sony’s console monster might not. The eye plays. Not just on the screen.
