Under-21 manager Rui Jorge analyzed the 2-1 victory over the Netherlands and acknowledged that they could have scored more goals.
“Holland, in fact, have an excellent team. The players were very organized, very concentrated and aggressive in the defensive moment and made the task of the Dutch team very difficult. There was no lack of defensive control at any point during the game. When you concede goals and look for a two-goal lead, the team can shake a bit, but our problem today, if it existed and we can call it a problem, was the offensive aspect. From the defensive point of view I don’t have much to say, given the quality of the opposing team and also the diamond we played today – we rarely used it – but defensively I think we were quite good. We knew that the opponent’s power would take longer without the ball, but we also knew that when we had it we could be dangerous. This is what failed a bit, we weren’t as dangerous as we can be, ”said Rui Jorge.
On the under 21 route.
«We ended this journey with nine wins and one defeat (Netherlands). Is very good. We have an obligation to better understand that, in this context of under 21, it is quite difficult for it to happen at European level. We look at the other groups and we realize that it is difficult to make such long journeys without stumbling, without mistakes. I remember that in the Netherlands we suffered 4-2 already after 90 minutes and I spoke in the locker room about the uncontrolled situation that existed at that moment, but that makes us grow, makes the players grow. It is from these moments that their career is nourished ».
