Opposition to the American online sales giant is growing across France. In Lot-et-Garonne, yesterday, Black Friday, a collective was created.
Environmental associations, movements of alter globalization, Confédération paysanne, bookshops, are twelve, coming from different backgrounds, who have mobilized behind the banner “Stop Amazon in the 47”. For their first collective action, the activists met yesterday at noon in the parking lot of the Intermarché store in Roquefort, in front of one of the “lockers” of the Amazon, which allows the sending and receiving of packages from all over the world. After pasting up posters with the “Sorry Amazon” slogan of an Intermarché advertising campaign deemed hypocritical by the collective, the various organizations expressed their differences. Everyone sees Amazon as a potential ogre, trampling the occupation for some, the planet for others, or even mocking French taxation. “Amazon takes a very aggressive approach and aims to create a monopoly,” says David Arlabosse, a member of the collective. For him these actions are fundamental for public awareness: “Can’t you see their mechanics, who sees the planes or warehouses? When you see it, it’s already too late”, he concludes. The collective “Stop Amazon in the 47” already announces future actions against the American company and those who “let it thrive”, evoking in particular the responsibility of politicians for setting up new warehouses.
